How to Relieve Stress in 5 Minutes

Most of us have a our own ways of dealing with stress and that can involve hitting the gym, a punching bag or the treadmill for an hour. But if you haven't got the time and you are feeling stressed, try the following five minute de-stress and age-less solutions.

Hug someone you love

This is a simple but powerful stress reliever because it brings on the release of the happy hormone, oxytocin, that increases trust, acceptance, compassion and in the process relieves stress. Not bad for something that costs nothing and gives so much; not only to you but the person you are hugging!  So what are you waiting for, everyone needs a hug!

Breath in calm

At the end of a stressful day we can feel overloaded and any negative thoughts or emotions that came with the day can create tension and anxiety. Whatever the emotion, feel it, heal it and then let the anger go. If you don't have time for a long deep breathing session because you need to get dinner on the table do my 5-8-9 technique. Sit down. Keep your back straight, breath in for a count of 5, hold your breath for a count of 8, and then exhale for 9. Repeat this for a couple of minutes. Making your exhale a few counts longer than your inhale calms your nervous system.

Animal kindness

Our four legged friends (dogs and cats) raise our serotonin and dopamine levels that have calming properties. Loving these little friends reduces depression and calms us down while lowering our blood pressure. Thank heavens they don't charge us for all the goodness they bring to our lives!
